동영애의 나무와퀼트展

핸드메이드.
정성어린 마음과 야무진 손끝이 없다면 결코 완성되지 않는 단어.

나무조각에 꼬물거리는 퀼트 애벌레
화사한 분홍 조각보 꽃잎
물고기 모빌과
와당문양 태피스트리(벽 가리개) 등

한땀한땀 바늘이 움직일 때마다
마음이 박히고 시간이 내려 앉습니다.

고르고 골라 잘 말린
감나무, 배나무, 참죽나무, 춘양목, 참나무들과
곱디고운 천연 염색 옷을 입은 우리 광목은
선생님의 손끝에서
소재의 질감은 살아나고 색감이 어우러져
조화롭고 질박하게 살아납니다.

심재록 선생님과 동영애 선생님은 부부지간입니다.
비록 심재록 선생님은 타계하셨지만
가구공방은 지금도 그 색깔을 잃지않고 선생님의 맥을 잇고 있습니다.

동영애 선생님께선
지난 30여 년이 넘는 세월동안
전통염색과 수예 뿐만 아니라
우리에겐 다소 생소했던 퀼트 분야에 심취하시며 꾸준히 작품활동을 진행하고 계십니다.

As I follow in the footsteps of your warm energy, I am going to introduce...

'Wood and Quilt Works by Dong, Young Ai' exhibition in Gallery Nami.

[Period] 2009.12.9 ~ 2010.1.31

[Location] Gallery Nami

It is all hand-made.
Dong Yuong Ai's works never be done without her dexterous hand skills and devotion.

Korean roofing tile patterned tapestry,
The larvar crawls on a piece of wood,
Colorful pink patchwork wrapping cloths,
Rainbow-Fish mobile,
etc

To complete her hand-works, it takes lots of time and needs great efforts.
She picks the best of best trees that is well dried among
persimmon trees, pear trees, kind of china-berry trees and oak trees.
And then, her naturally dyed white cotton clothes beautifully harmonize with her hand skills.
The feel of materials and colors presents its simplicity and tidiness.

Sim, Jae Rok and Dong, Young Ai are husband and wife.
Even though Sim Jae Rok had passed away, his spirits and colors of household goods workshops
are preserved till now and will be continued in future.

Dong, Young Ai not only has done traditional dying but also different kinds of handicrafts for more
than 30yrs. She constantly keeps her handicrafts with her great devotion!

Have you heard about the wonderland of Naminara Republic?!

Nami Island is an imaginary world where nothing is impossible.
Today I am going to give you an instructive tip about what should be on your
'Must to do' list to have more constructive weekends!! lol

'Naminara Republic National Brand Exhibition'

[Period] 2009. 12.3(Thur) - 2009. 12. 27(Sun)
[Location]  V-gallery in Seoul Art Center, Seoul SerCho-dong

For this exhibition, sightseeing posters and memorable souvenirs about 200 different kinds are created by several talented artists. They all get inspired from 12 main symbols of Nami Island such as Metasequoia Lane, Recycling, The Ostriches, Namimaid, Winter Sonata, Art Craft Studio and International Children's Book Festival etc.

Glazes mixed with wild flower to make papers.
Flattened Korean So-ju bottle tile and decoration.
Korean traditional family game 'Yut'. Those four sticks of yut are made of Nami trees.
etc...
These products are all indigenous to Nami Island.

Moreover, Nami Island managed <The Conspiracy of Cultural Products> with the Seoul Art Center on last October for this exhibition and better condition for Korean tourism industries. All products at the exhibition were selected among the best of the best.

[ 전시 장소 ] 예술의전당 한가람디자인미술관 비타민갤러리

이번 전시에서는 나미나라공화국의 관광포스터를 비롯하여
12명의 공예가들이
메타세콰이어길, 재활용, 타조, 세계책나라축제, 인어공주상, 단풍숲 등 12개의 상징물을 이용해 개발한
200여 개의 다양한 아이디어가 넘치는 관광상품을 선보이고 있습니다.

남이섬 모닥불에서 나온 재를 섞어서 만든 도자기
소주병 재활용 아트 타일
가지치기할 때 나온 남이섬 나무로 만든 윷
직접 수확해서 도정한 남이섬 쌀 등
나미나라공화국의 고유상품 등을 만나보실 수 있답니다.

나미나라공화국과 예술의전당은 지난 10월 공동으로 <문화상품 공모전>을 개최하기도 했구요.
이번 전시작품은 앞으로 남이섬이나 예술의 전당을 대표할 문화관광상품으로
지속개발 및 판매될 계획에 있습니다.

  This exhibition at Seoul Art Center display all
unique products(about 200 kinds) of Naminara as well as sell them in resonable prices.

Okay. It has been more than 2-weeks since the National Brand Exhibition open on Dec. 3.
I go to the Art Center three times a week and everytime I go there so many people ask me the same questions; many people get confused as Naminara Republic is one of countries in Africa.  Sometimes people are looking at the flag of Naminara Republic and questioned if this country has any relationship with Turkey. And... it made me to think. 'It would be great if I wrote some of it on our Blog!'

I am so pleased to inform you all and these following are my answers to them.

Q : Where is Naminara Republic?

A : Naminara Republic is the Nami Island that is located at the boundary of
     Gyonggydo, Gapyung and Kangwondo, Chooncheon.
     Naminara, the beautiful scenic spot, is craving for such a wonderland and imaginary world
     come true in reality for people who love nature, culture and arts.
     In fact, we became independent on March. 1st, 2006.
     As we hold diverse international festivals and events, we are working worldwide and   
     have very  warm-hearted international relationships.

Q : Why Nami Island is named after 'Naminara Republic'?

A : First of all, it is fun. Who could think about such an idea to build a 'nation' in Korea. 
     It is not possible.  Our moto is 'Do sth opposite, Try sth different!'
     We want to be different and the one tourist attraction that represents Korea well.

나만의 인형
그 소중했던 기억 속으로
걸어가는 여행
