오늘은, 세계어린이책의날에 대한 이야기를 나눠볼까 합니다.

# 세계 어린이 책의 날이란?
세계 어린이들이 너무나 좋아하는 동화작가
한스 크리스찬 안데르센(Hans Christian Andersen)의 생일(1805년 4월 2일)을 기념하여
어린이들이 꿈을 키울 수 있는 독서를 권장하고자
국제아동도서협의회(The International Board on Books for Young People : IBBY)에서 선정합니다.

1967년부터 시작되어, 2010 올해로 세계어린이책의날이 43회를 맞게 되었어요.
해마다 세계 각국의 IBBY 지부가 스폰서가 되어
그 나라를 대표할 수 있는 글작가가 메시지를 쓰고
일러스트레이터가 포스터를 그려서
세계어린이책의 날을 축하합니다.

올해는, IBBY 스페인 지부가 스폰서를 맡아
전세계적으로 '어린이 독서 권장'에 도움이 되는 포스터와 메시지를 제작/배포하였습니다.

옛날 옛적에
항해를 해본 적이 없는
작은 배 한척이 있었습니다 ~♪

한 주, 두 주, 세 주,
네 주, 다섯 주, 여섯 주가 지나고
작은 배는 항해를 시작 하였답니다. ~ ♬ 

우리는 글읽기를 배우기도 전에 놀고 노래 부르기를 배웁니다.
저와 우리 동네 아이들은 이 노래를 글도 못읽을 때부터 부르곤 했습니다.

우리는 길거리에 둥그렇게 모여서서, 항해할 줄 모르는 가엾은 작은 배에 관한 이 노래를
여름철 귀뚜라미 소리와 경쟁하듯 자꾸자꾸 부르곤 했습니다.

때로는 작은 조각배를 만들어 물웅덩이에 띄우기도 하고,
해안선에 닿기도 전에 가라않도록 놔두기도 하였습니다.

저 또한 우리동네 길거리에 정박한 작은 보트와 같았답니다.
오후 내내 지붕위에 앉아서 서쪽으로 지는 해를 바라보며
- 먼 공간속을 바라봤는지 내 마음속을 바라봤는지 잘 모르겠지만 -
제 시야를 넘어선 곳에 있는 멋진 세상에 대해 상상하곤 하였습니다.

우리 집 옷장 속 상자 뒷쪽에도 아무도 읽지 않아 항해할 줄 모르는 작은 책이 있었습니다.
수없이 그 앞을 지나쳤지만, 한 번도 눈길이 가지 않았습니다.
진흙 속의 종이배, 상자 뒤쪽에 숨겨진 외로운 책이었습니다.

어느날, 무언가를 찾다가 이 책에 손이 가게 되었습니다.
만약 제가 책이었다면 이렇게 말했겠지요
"어느날, 한 어린이의 손이 내 표지를 쓰다듬자,
돛이 펼쳐지며 항해를 시작하는걸 느꼈습니다".

마침내 그 책에 눈길이 간 건 놀라운 일이었습니다.
빨간 표지와 금빛 문양이 있는 작은 책이었습니다.

보물상자를 발견해 두근거리며 열어보는 사람처럼, 기대에 차서 책을 펼쳤습니다.
실망스럽지 않았습니다.
읽자 마자, 모험의 시작임을 알았습니다.

주인공의 용감함, 착한 사람, 나쁜 사람, 설명이 붙은 멋진 그림들, 위험, 놀라움.
신나는 미지의 세계로 저를 데려다 주었습니다.

우리집 뒤엔
강이 있고, 강 뒤엔 바다가 있고, 바다 위엔 항해중인 배가 있다는 걸 알게 된 이야기입니다.

제가 탄 첫 배는  히스파니올라 호('보물섬' 플린트 선장)였지만
노틸러스 호(해저2만마일), 로시난테(돈키호테의 말), 신밧드의 배
또는 허클베리 핀의 큰 배였을 수도 있었습니다.

이들 모두는 시간의 흐름과 상관없이
어린이의 눈길이 닿아 돛을 펴고 출항하기를 기다리고 있을 것입니다.

어서, 책을 펼쳐보세요.
제가 어렸을때 불렀던 노래처럼
책을 펼치면 아무리 작더라도 항해 할줄 모르는 배는 없다는 것을 깨닫게 될 것입니다.

For good parenting, internationally many parents believe that 'reading books' is helpful for
children's intellectual development.

In fact, parents try hard(?!) in several ways to make their children to get an interest in reading and
be familiar with books. Some kids, without their parents' great devotion, know the fun of reading.
For those kids, parents are willing to get more books with pleasure and even at this moment,
their livingroom might be ready to open for 'Home Library'. lol

And I am pretty sure these parents who have interests in all these book stuffs for their kids,
might heard of The Hans Christian Andersen Awards : 1956 - 2008.

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards is well known as the best awards for specialists in Children Literacy and Illustratration. It would be very honored if your name has brought up on the list of candidates for the Awards; it is like 'Novel Prize' in children's book field.

Since the first Hans Christian Andersen Awards had formed in 1956, IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) selects one best illustrator and one children literacy author once in every 2 yrs.

Till now there are total 55 prize winners including 22 illustrators and 28 authors.

The prize winners are the present best of the illustrators and authors who are all remarkably contributed to the development of Children Literacy.

Golden medal and certificate are granted to Andersen Awards winners. The conferment ceremony proceed during IBBY general meeting in every 2 yrs.

Moreover, as Bookbird Magazine reports all the process of selecting winners of Hans Christian Andersen Awards on the magazines, its authority and fairness to choose winners are guaranteed and
acknowledged.

Last 31st March, 2008.
The 27th Hans Christian Andersen Award was held in Bologna, Italy.
And the most important news!!!
Its official sponsor had been changed from 'Nissan' to Nami Island in Korea.

Japan-based Nissan has sponsored 'The Hans Christian Andersen Awards' for last 16yrs but
For next 10 years from 2009, Naminara Republic(Nami Island) in Korea officially is Andersen's sponsor.

Looking back, Nami Island's International Children's Book Festival(NAMBOOK) raised
'Boom' of Children's books in Korea.

The festival has reached its 5th birthday on this coming October and it is widely seen as remarkable book festival in Korea and more than 70countries are participating in this festival nowadays.

Nami Island has been selected as an official sponsor of Hans Christian Andersen Awards
since last year; AND Nami families who fell in love with NAMBOOK International Children Book Festival and work under the moto of 'Eat, Drink, Spread books on a floor, Roll over in books and Rest on them. Just Be the one with them' took it as an international acknowledgement for their great effort and devotion to manage such a big cultural festival. Hooray~!

IBBY is delighted to announce that Nami Island Inc. of South Korea has generously agreed to sponsor the Hans Christian Andersen Awards for the next ten years!  

Nami Island is an extraordinary island, owned by the Minn family and lying in the Bukhangang River, to which Korean families come for day trips, and where they encounter the wonderful world of books. The annual NAMBOOK festival that attracts children’s books, performers, and artists from around the world; the Centre for Environmental Studies; the Artists’ Centre and residential cottages where artisans and artists can come to work and live with nature; the UNICEF pavilion; the outdoor sculpture garden; and most especially, the numerous little nature libraries scattered throughout the island, make this one of the most extraordinary places in the world for children, as well as adults, to encounter books.

Led by the brilliant South Korean designer, illustrator, writer and current president of KBBY, Woo-hyon Kang, it is hard to imagine a more perfect sponsor for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Awards. IBBY is deeply grateful for this exciting new sponsorship.

거실을 서재로 바꾸는 캠페인이 아니더라도
이미 온집안은 책으로 점령당했을테고
계속 또, 또를 외쳐대는
기특한 아이 덕분에
침대머리맡에서 그림책을 목이 쉬도록 읽어주던 경험을 갖고 있어
국제안데르센상과 남이섬 세계책나라축제에 대해 알고 계실 듯 합니다.

국제 안데르센상, The Hans Christian Andersen Awards : 1956 - 2008

어린이 그림책의 노벨문학상으로 불릴 정도로
가장 받기 어려울뿐더러 수상후보에 거론되는 것만으로도 의미있을만큼
세계적으로 권위를 인정받는 상입니다.

1956년 제1회 국제안데르센상이 선정된 이래로
2년 마다 한번씩 수상자를 발표하는데
세계 각국에서 발표된 우수 어린이책 및 아동문학발전에 기여한
현존하는 일러스트레이터와 글작가를 후보로 심사하여
그 중 최우수 일러스트레이터 1분, 글작가 1분에게 대상을 수여해요.
지금까지 총 50명의 작가( 22명의 일러스트레이터, 28명 글작가 )가
수상의 영예를 안았고 중복수상한 작가는 없었답니다.

수상작가에게는 금메달과 증서가 수여되며
2년에 한번씩 열리는 IBBY (국제아동도서협의회 The International Board on Books for Young People)
총회 기간 중에 축제 형식으로 시상이 이루어집니다.
또한 IBBY의 Bookbird 잡지에 모든 후보작품과 그 심사과정이 수록되는만큼
국제 안데르센상의 권위와 공정성을 인정받고 있지요.

지난 2008년 3월 31일
이탈리아 볼로냐에서는 국제 안데르센상 수상자가 선정, 발표되는 한편
국제 안데르센상의 공식 스폰서가 변경되었어요.

과거 16년간 국제안데르센상의 공식 스폰서였던 일본의 닛산자동차 다음으로
대한민국의 나미나라공화국 남이섬이
2009년부터 2019년까지 향후 10년간
국제 안데르센상의 공식 스폰서로 선정되었답니다. ^___^ V
